We are missing water in Córdoba these days…

The province is facing a prolonged drought, with temperatures of 45° centigrade degrees these days (we are at the beginning of the spring, there should have 25° to 30° degrees of temperature, no more).

I miss rain… real strong rain and storms…

We are hoping for a change in the weather this weekend, hopefully some heavy rain to help everything grow back.

There are lots of tipical souvenirs here in Córdoba… but of course I don´t have any to take pictures of… so, instead, I post a picture of a window display in Carlos Paz, a very touristic destiny if you are traveling to the Province of Córdoba.

You can see mates, little ponchos for the kids, and some traditional pottery.

A few weeks ago Rafa and I made a road trip to Entre Rios with some friends. We weren’t driving so we took turns with the camera and took pictures in every little town we passed. We leave our home in the middle of the night so we could see the sunrise while driving in the road, a few kilometers away from Córdoba. I couldn’t stop shooting my camera… lovely colors and atmosphere.

When I was a little girl I used to dream about being a singer…

I used to go to the roof of my parents house and sing for hours… looking at the landscape, the clouds and the sun. The only living beings that could hear me were the cats we had on the backyard…

Even now I sing when I´m alone at home.

I went to a chorus for some years when I was very little, but I just stop singing in public for some reason I can´t remember, despite of all the teachers who tell my parents to take me some place where I could learn…

I like to have that as a secret to show only to the ones I´m very close.

“Weekend evenings”

We spend the last weekend of my winter holidays at Río Tercero, a town located 99km from Córdoba . I completely forgot about the pictures at 7:45, but I did take lots of photos… so I will show you some of those…

We walk trough fields near the river… and the adventurous photographer in me found the ground to be covered with spines… my knees regret it, but the shots were great!

We also went to the cinema and ate lots and lots of pasta from the little factory our family has there.

My favorite place to just be and relax is any park I can find, I´m free and more myself whenever I´m surrounded by trees and nature.

This week theme is “staple foods” or typical foods.

The basic Argentinean diet must have meat in every possible way you can think of… but the preferred way to cook meat is to make “Asado” or barbecue.

In this picture you can see chorizos, morcillas, chinchulines, molleja, costillas or ribs (you don´t really want to know to which part of the cow this names refer… believe me, the best thing is to just eat it and see if you like it…).

To make an asado you must start by making the fire…

Then you salt the meat…

You wait and you wait until the meat cooks slowly …

And you enjoy it!

It usually goes with different salads and fries and of course white bread… another staple food of Argentina…

This week theme is city landscapes or cityscapes or urban landscapes… pictures of your city… of the buildings that surround you… of the view from the top of a building …

Córdoba doesn´t have lots of tall buildings so the skyline is actually very low… almost flat… but in the background you have mountains… colorful mountains. I have always loved that contrast between the city and its surroundings…

I used to live in the 13th floor of a very tall building. This is the view from my old balcony.

Me encanta el origami... de hecho todo mi trabajo de tesis como Licenciada en Artes partió del origami (sujeto a mudanza). Quizás es por eso que esta idea me encanta...

Un emboltorio vacío que es la misma cosa en su capacidad de transformarse. La pequeña bolsa se desarma y trae en sí misma las instrucciones para convertirse en un animalito. El dinero ganado con las bolsas se destina a defender a esos animales en extinción...

An empty paperbag that becomes a paper toy in his hability to transform. The little bag contains the instruccions to become an animal. The money earned is destined to defend those animals in danger of extincion....

I´m not one of those people who can decide between coffee and tea… I just can´t live without any of them!

I love coffee! The smell… the color… the taste…

I usually have mine with milk but when I make espresso at home I like it black… and hot!

I took some pictures of my vintage grinding machine. We bought it two years ago not only as a beautiful object, but to grind our daily coffee… of course it was too much work so we end up buying an electric machine…

I love the smell of the grain when it gets broken… all the house smells like coffee after grinding!

The province of Cordoba is filled with places where you can go camping, swimming, walking or just lay around in the fresh grass.

Last summer my husband and I spend a day in Cosquín, a city located at 50 km from Capital Córdoba. We took a train (called “tren a las sierras”) and enjoy the ride, taking pictures of the landscapes as the train passes though mountains and streams.

We pass through the San Roque Lake…

And end up in Cosquín River… were everyone else was swimming and enjoying the fresh water…

We just sat on the rocks and enjoy the view… the wind in our hair… the mild air…

Quitapenas - Guatemalan worry dolls

Las compré hace poco por si me daba una pena grande que quisiera contar al oido de un pequeño pedazo de trapo...

Dentro de la cajita hay seis muñecas, una por cada día de la semana menos el domingo (en que descansan).

Dentro de la cajita dice:

De acuerdo a la leyenda, los niños guatemaltecos le cuentan sus penas a cada muñeca cuando van a la cama por las noches y las guardan debajo de la almohada. En la mañana las muñecas se habrán levado lejos su pena...

I recently purchased these dolls in case I had a big sorrow that I would like to tell to a small piece of cloth.

Inside the little box are six dolls, one for each day of the week except for Sundays (when they rest).

There´s also a little paper that says:

According to legend Guatemalan children tell one worry to each doll when they go to bed at night and place the dolls under their pillow. In the morning the dolls have taken their worries away.

Corner View - Número cuatro (late but...)

This is a typical corner in Cordoba Downtown... the place where you can buy everything from clothes and shoes to food... and all you can think of. It´s a very wide area of the city where there are government buildings, historic places, and the financial and commercial district of the city.

Of course there are shopping centers and neighborhoods shops all over the city, but when you really need something you must go downtown were you will surely found it. So, if you ever come to Córdoba... be sure to book a hotel near downtown... is a must see!

Well... this is all for this week, a very busy week for me, with very little time to take interesting pictures of shopping places...

This week theme in “Corner View” is Modes of Transportation!

I´m always taking crowded buses, and trolleybuses to move inside the city, but today I thought about trains…

I live near to an old station and I have listen to the sound of sirens and trains passing all my life. Trains in Cordoba are only freight trains, at least until now. There is a big plan of using the railroads and the existing structure to add a new way of local transportation.

I usually walk my dog following the railroads. The station and all that surrounds it are great photographic subjects!

This week theme for “Corner View” is breakfast, one of my favorite meals of the day!
Normally we don´t have a lot of time to eat breakfast, but in the weekends we love to have it in one of the many cafés in the city, or in our own kitchen spending all the time we can.

I usually have some toast and a latte, but in the picture you can see a more typical selection: medialunas and café con leche…. Or croissants and a cafe au lait… with fresh orange juice made with the fruit we buy in a vegetable market nearby.

But I promised you something else… Mate!

Here it is! I usually have it every day after breakfast when I´m at work, but is a very common breakfast for most of the people in Argentina… actually, we drink mate at every hour of the day!

All you need is some yerba mate, a sort of tea that is cultivated in South America. You put the leaves in a cup (also) called mate, and you insert a straw called bombilla. Then you pour hot water in it… and you drink it… just like that…

Some people add sugar to mate, or herbs and fruits that change the flavor. It´s actually very bitter… so it takes a lot of time to truly love it (little children almost never drink mate… they just don´t like it… is something that you get accustomed whit time).
But at the end, the most important thing about mate is that is a social drink… something you share with others during a conversation. One person prepares mate for a group of people; everyone has his turn to drink it, sharing the same cup and straw. This helps a lot when you are talking to someone, when he or she is drinking… is your time to talk; when you are drinking… is your time to listen.

This is my first picture for “Corner View” , a project that Jane, over at Spain Daily, has come up with as a way to get to know a Little bit about the world as others bloggers see it.

I´m a bit late I´m afraid… I didn’t realize there was so much time difference whit most of the blogers! But I post now anyway, knowing that I should do it earlier next wednesday…
;)

This is the front of our house… I have been living here with my husband Rafael (and our dog “Canoa”) for the last six months. It is located in one of the most traditional neighborhoods of the city, “Alta Córdoba”, a place filled with old houses like this that I find so big and tall but so cozy at the same time.

The tree in front of the house is a “Lapacho Rosado”, which blooms so beautifully every spring, filling the path with pink dots!

Esta es mi primera foto para “Corner View”, un proyecto que Jane, de Spain Daily, ha ideado para que todos conozcamos un poco del mundo a través de la mirada de otros bloggers.
Temo que me he retrasado un poco… no me di cuenta que había tanta diferencia horaria entre todos los bloggers! Pero bueno, posteo ahora sabiendo que lo tengo que hacer más temprano el miércoles que viene…

Este es el frente de nuestra casa… vivo allí desde hace seis meses con mi marido Rafael (y nuestra perra “Canoa”). Está ubicada en uno de los barrios más tradicionales de Córdoba, “Alta Córdoba”, un lugar lleno de estas casas viejas que me parecen tan grandes y altas pero a la vez tan acogedoras.

El árbol del frente es un “Lapacho Colorado”, que florece en primavera llenando la vereda de puntos rosados!

Espero les haya gustado!

Los veré a todos el miércoles que viene para disfrutar de un desayuno argentino… (han probado el mate?)

Thomas Forsyth es un artista y diseñador de Inglaterra.

Sus últimos trabajos parecen buscar una relación con lo artístico similar a la que establecemos con los juegos y los juguetes.

Uno de esos juguetes es esta especie de trompo sin punta, diseñado para insertarle un lápiz o pluma que, al funcionar como punta, va dibujando líneas azarosas sobre el papel.

Me hizo pensar en las máquinas de hacer arte que muchos artistas del siglo XX crearon.

Una versión mucho más simple de esa idea revalorizadora del azar.

La motivación del usuario antes que en la funcionalidad, esa fué la premisa.

Buscando info sobre los "Blooming teas" me encontré con este trabajo: "lighting bag" de Wonsik Chae.

Este diseñador de corea del sur fabricó estas bolsitas de té conteniendo un químico que en contanco con el líquido se vuelve fluorescente. Linda idea para reemplazar las velitas, pero desconozco cuán tóxico puede ser el contenido (:@)

Hace una semana encontré este video...

Es un "blooming tea", un tipo de té chino, elaborado a mano, que encierra pequeñas flores entre hebras de té verde, de forma que al calentarse e hincharse, se abra como una flor. (fotos del proceso de armado)

Demás está decir que quiero uno!!! (se imaginan todas las fotos que le sacaría?)

Antes de ponerlos en el agua caliente parecen nueces o algo así...

y luego florecen en muchas variantes de arreglos según la flor que lleven dentro y quien los fabrique...

Aunque quisiéramos creer que se trata de una tradición milenaria china, estos tés se fabrican hace aproximadamente 20 años, por lo que son relativamente nuevos en el mundo del té.

Vestimenta renovable

Hace ya un tiempo que me encontré con estas imágenes en la web y las he visto repetidas en muchos lugares, pero creo que es interesante ponerlas acá. La idea de lo variable y adaptable, junto con el uso de recursos simples y cotidianos, se relaciona con algunas de las cosas que he posteado.

El proyecto se llama "vestimenta renovable" y es de Fernando Brizzio, nacido en Angola pero está radicado en Lisboa. Se trata de vestidos (muy simples, lo cual también los hace interesantes!) con pequeños bolsillos para insertar fibras de colores, y generar diseños y patrones variables. Según el diseñador, la idea es que el diseño sea "lavable", de tal forma que pueda generarse uno diferente cada vez que se usa la prenda (buenísimo para no parecer que una se viste siempre igual jaj).

El resultado es muy pregnante y llamativo a la vista, no caben dudas...

Estos "Bolsillos de pared" o Wallpockets están hechos de cartón y se pueden acomodar en la forma y distribución que más guste. Los imagino muy útiles para la pared de un taller o estudio donde siempre hay cosas dando vueltas y muy poco orden (al menos en el nuestro!). Una buena forma de decorar y poner orden al mismo tiempo.

Y además, los pentágonos me pueden... jaja

Guerrilla knitting!

Me gustan los proyectos que hacen borrosas las fronteras entre las disciplinas, los que usan materiales de todos los días y les dan una vuelta de tuerca.
Guerrilla Knittting o tejido de guerrilla... es de ese tipo de proyectos. La idea es resignificar espacios publicos, embrellecerlos, destacarlos, mediante una acción simple y antiquísima: el tejido.
Lo primero que pienso al verlos es el trabajo que llevan... tejer es una tarea lenta, de espera y paciencia, y me asombra verla unida a lo urbano y a una suerte de grafitti más relacionado con la velocidad y lo clandestino. Además, no puedo evitar relacionar el tejido con una suerte de cuidado maternal o "abuelesco", una tarea de cariño y afecto, en este caso volcado hacia las cosas de la calle, ajenas y propias a la vez.

Estas obras funcionan como señalamientos en la ciudad, lugares resaltados en su cotidianeidad por artistas callejeros, que deciden abandonar a su suerte sus trabajos, premitiendo así su disfrute por el transeunte común.
La idea se ha difundido por todo el mundo y es llevada a cabo por todos lados, tal como se puede ver en flickr y en una cantidad de blogs y páginas de diferentes grupos "guerrilleros" del tejido.

Mide 4,5×2 x 3 cm y está hecho de plata metálica y pequeñitas bolsas de basura en las cuales guardar lo que se nos ocurra...

Pienso en los boletos de colectivo que guardaría para tirar en casa, los papeles de caramelo... y en todos esos tesoros diminutos que se encuentran por ahí...

Parece que los 24 de enero están destinados a comenzar proyectos que mantengo, así que he decidido volver a trabajar en mi blog de diseño, que tan abandonado tengo.
Todos los días visito montones de páginas de diseño e ilustración, y guardo muchas imágenes de cosas que me interesan y me sirven de inspiración para mis fotos y mis dibujitos, para Plane and Cloud y para la vida, cosas que a veces simplemente me alegran el día.
Nunca guardo los links y soy un desastre para acordarme de donde he sacado la información, por lo que había dejado de subir esas imágenes a "llorar en los colectivos" para no publicar sin citar la fuente. Ultimamente he ideado un pequeño sistema, muy tonto pero necesario para mi, que me permitió guardar toda esa información con referencias, por lo que la idea es hacer bien las cosas y publicar con el link correspondiente.
Bueno, ese es mi pequeño proyecto, no prometo publicar todos los días, sólo cuando encuentre algo interesante para compartir o guardar. Al fin y al cabo, los blogs son como grandes cajas o cuadernos donde poner las ideas que nos interesan por cualquier motivo.
